Canoe instructor

For anyone that enjoys the outdoors, a canoe instructor job can be an ideal situation. However, becoming an instructor is not simply a matter of being able to paddle, but instead requires a multi-stage learning process that is overseen by the American Canoe Association. Once certified, instructors can find jobs at any number of summer camps or state parks, among other places.

A canoe instructor must have several attributes if they are to be successful. The ability to relate too and communicate with strangers is an essential part of being an instructor. Group management and interpersonal skills are the difference between a mediocre and a fantastic instructor.

A canoe instructor should also be well versed in all types of canoeing. When most people think of canoeing they think of a slow paddle across a calm lake. However, river canoeing and kayaking are also common forms of the sport, and as such require an instructor with a high degree of expertise.
